works primarily with clay, shaping both functional and sculptural forms that hold space for precision, quietude, and emotion. Her signature Blue-and-White porcelain, featuring intuitive drawings of imaginative florals, echoes the spirit of Japanese calligraphy, which she has practiced since childhood. These surfaces become meditative landscapes, where memory and imagination intertwine.

Her Scar and Torn series emerges from deeply personal terrain. With forms that are both raw and refined, their deliberate cuts and tears speak to a delicate tension—between strength and vulnerability, control and release. Each piece holds the trace of emotional rupture, transformed into quiet beauty.

Themes of Belonging and Place run gently through Keiko’s practice. As a long-time immigrant to Australia, she reflects on identity and rootedness through recurring symbols—tiny houses, ceramic chairs—objects that evoke home, individuality, and the spaces we inhabit within and around us.

Keiko has been fortunate to be mentored by some of Australia’s most esteemed ceramic artists, including Les Blakebrough OAM, Prue Venables (both National Living Treasures), Hiroe Swen OA, a pioneering Japanese–Australian potter, and the internationally acclaimed Kirsten Coelho.

She currently lives and works between Australia and Japan, drawing from the quiet contrasts and resonances of both places.

マツイ　ケイコ

は、陶を主体に、機能性と彫刻性を併せ持つ作品を手がけるアーティストです。彼女の代表作であるブルー&ホワイトの磁器には、下書きなしに描かれた自由で幻想的な草木や花々が、時に勢いのある筆使いで、時に繊細な線で描かれ、それはマツイが幼少期より親しんできた書道の精神と通じています。白磁をキャンバスに描かれるモチーフや文字は、彼女の記憶と想像の世界が交差する静謐な風景です。

色々な作風に挑戦する中、Scar and Torn (傷と裂け)シリーズは、彼女の実体験から誕生した思い入れのある作品群です。尖った部分と洗練されたフォルムが同居するこの作品には、強さと脆さ、抑制と解放のあわいにある繊細な緊張感を表現しており、それは多くの人間が経験する感情の断片が静かな美として刻まれています。

又、約30年間を日本国外で過ごしてきた彼女にとって、「家」や「帰属性」といったテーマも、制作に通底しており、住まいを象徴する小さな家や椅子のオブジェの中に、自分が属する場所や心の拠り所を探求しています。

2007年にシドニーのナショナル・アート・スクールを卒業後、豪州人間国宝のLes Blakebrough OAM氏とPrue Venables氏、先駆的日本人陶芸家の博江Swen OA氏、そして、国際的に活躍するKirsten Coelho氏より薫陶を受け、現在はオーストラリアと日本を拠点に制作活動を行っています。
