Dance on the rim
"Dance on the Rim"- true to its name, this series possesses a sense of dynamism as if dancing upon the edges of the vessels. It was first exhibited in 2019 at May Space, a long-established gallery in Sydney.
The work features a juxtaposition of opposing elements: the translucency of porcelain thrown to its limit of thinness, contrasted with a powerful base boldly carved by hand. This juxtaposition is a central expressive method in Matsui's work, reflecting both the strength and the suppleness of the artist herself. In her process, she not only focuses on the internal form of the vessel but also ensures a sense of stability by retaining a certain weight in the foot to balance the exceptionally thin, wheel-thrown body.
For her, forming porcelain is both a challenge to high-level technique and a meditative time to clear the mind and achieve a state of "nothingness." The moment she uses her fingertips to apply sharp angles or soft distortions to a rim already refined with a chamois — that is when a one-of-a-kind curve, unique to that specific moment, comes into being.

「Dance on the Rim」- その名の通り、器の縁（リム）の上でダンスを踊るかのような躍動感を持つこのシリーズは、2019年にシドニーのMay Spaceで初めて発表されました。
限りなく薄く引き上げられた磁器の透明感と、手彫りによって斬新に削り取られた力強い足元。この相反する要素の「Juxtaposition（対比）」は、松井の作品を形作る重要な表現方法であり、作家自身の強さとしなやかさの両面を映し出しています。制作においては、器の内側のフォルムに気を配るだけでなく、非常に薄く水引されたボディに対し、高台にある程度の重みを持たせることで、確かな安定感を生み出しています。
彼女にとって磁器の成形は、高度な技術への挑戦であると同時に、精神を研ぎ澄まし「無」になれる時間でもあります。なめし皮で端正に整えたリムに、指先で急な角度や柔らかな歪みを加えていく瞬間。そこには、その時にしか生まれない唯一無二の曲線が宿ります。
