Scar
The 'Scar' series is one of Matsui’s signature bodies of work, born from profound personal experience. First exhibited at the prestigious Sturt Gallery in Mittagong, NSW—a renowned hub for Australia’s most established potters and artists—this series explores the human form by cutting, altering, and reassembling extremely thin, wheel-thrown porcelain. The series is titled 'Scar' because the joint lines, created by the overflow of squeezed slurry (liquid clay), mirror the appearance of human scarring.
The juxtaposition of the perfectly wheel-thrown porcelain body and the irregular, uneven lines of the slurry symbolizes the tension between what can be controlled and what cannot. These joined lines serve as a metaphor for the physical and emotional scars we all carry, emerging from the artist’s own journey through personal pain and healing.
スカ―(傷跡)
「Scar（傷跡）」シリーズは、松井の個人的な経験から生まれた、彼女を象徴する作品群のひとつです。オーストラリアの著名な陶芸家やアーティストたちが集う拠点として名の高い、ニューサウスウェールズ州ミタゴンのスタート・ギャラリーで一番最初に発表されたこの作品は、限りなく薄く轆轤成形された磁器のボディをあえて切り変形させ、再構築することで、人間の身体のラインに近いものを表現しています。溢れ出た泥漿によって作られた接合部は、人間の傷跡に似ていることから、Scarと名付けられました。
泥漿で創造された接続部分の歪なラインと、完璧を求め極薄に轆轤形成された磁器のボディーとの対比（ジャクスタポジション）は、コントロールできるものとできないものを象徴し、接続部分の泥漿が押し出されてた時に造られるそのラインは、誰もが持つ身体や心の傷を思い起こさせます。作家自身が過去に経験した身体的・精神的に深く傷ついた経験から生まれた作品です。
